AR-Project-Group-11
A downloadable game
by Peeter Tarvas, Hans Pedersen and Johan Rubak
Short description:
Our game is about following lines by drawing them as quick as possible while a "ghost", Giersing's wife is coming closer to you. So the main aim is to prolong the time as much as possible before she reaches you. The player has to draw different shapes with different colors. Color picking by hand is possible but there is also a possibility of using the virtual drawing pencils.

Cultural Impact:
- Our project envisioned a tense horror game inspired by Harald Giersing’s portrait of his wife—a painting whose provoking minimalism challenged Romantic-era conventions in Danish art with its low detail and emotional intensity, distancing itself from superficial Romantic traditions. We reimagined the subject as a haunting, sorrowful ghost trapped by societal norms, seeking liberation. This narrative embodies key EU values—Freedom, Equality, Democracy—while honoring the cultural heritage of the original artwork.
AR prototype implementation:
- Players sketch outlined objects on a virtual canvas—overlap and correct color match reset the timer and push the ghost away, rewarding task completion with sounds and voicelines. The ghost spawns at increasing speed, always facing the camera, with cyan particle “aura” effects. A simple UI offers Start/Reset buttons and a “How to play” overlay. We integrated ambient sound, voice-over for immersion and color-picking via Meta Quest 3’s Passthrough API —though this feature remains partially unreliable so we added a VR pencils as an alternative for using different colors.
The game experience:
- We got a very positive feedback from our questionnaire and most of the players gave us good feedback based on our feedback survey.
- The game successfully conveyed its intent, evoking fear and engagement and most players found the game intuitive and emotionally immersive. This can be concluded from the fact that out of 13 people who voted, 11 voted that they got scared.
- Some considerations that we should have done that we noted ourselves:
- 1. Ghost Movement Range should have been limited to around 120 degrees to give a better experience that the ghost is approaching them.
- 2. Painting Mechanic was difficult to perceive because scale and positioning of the pen made it unintuitive.
- 3. Few people misunderstood the drawing goal in that they started to fill in the object rather than following the line.
