Game Log 2 – Narrowing


1. Culture + Value + Game Collage

We made a game collage based on our ideas from the first phase, we went with a combination of the first two ideas.

For this method we each did some game sketching of our imagniation of the AR-interactions and gameloops:



3. Concept Convergence & Future Culture Worlds

Our game is basically a scary VR drawing simulator where each player draws a painting so that the ghost would not come nearer, once the ghost "touches" the player (player takes too much time drawing) the game is over.

Gameplay loop:

  1. Player goes to the image of Haunting Harald Giersing Wife
  2. Player start-button appears
  3. Everything turns dark and scary, the eyes of the ghost appears in the dark
  4. The real world comes back, now the player has to pick colors from the surroundings
  5. Player is greeted with a wall where he/she can see all the drawings made by previous players who have played the same game on the same game instance.
  6. Player starts drawing
  7. Player needs to continue drawing so that the ghost will move slower
  8. When the ghost "reaches" the player, the ghost will scare the player and the game will end with "Game over" screen.
  9. A new player will put on the headset, the ghost will reset but drawings will remain

Technical challenges:

  • Make drawing work well, with also drawing board/can pick colors/styles etc...
  • How to handle sessions, so that when the next player will put on the VR headset the previously drawn work will not disappear but the ghost will reset.
  • How to make headset lighting more and more dim

Idea challenges:

  • How to let the player know if/when the ghost starts chasing(jump scare?)
  • Maybe use peaceful music when painting, then stop when ghost spawns, then tense music when the ghost has been seen by the user

Work plan:

  1. Get basic drawing working in the world
  2. Implement the ghost coming to player when the player doesn't draw
  3. Session management/ reset the ghost not he drawings
  4. Dimming effects and notices

MVP and additions/how to develop:

  • MVP
    • Gameplay UI
      • Start button
      • Timer

      • Ambient scary surroundings
      • Ambient sounds
      • Ghost getting closer, appearing, scares you by giving a shock
    • Gameplay interaction
      • Player has a rectangle object in front of them that dims as timer goes down
      • VR 2d Canvas rectangle where player can draw on when pinching
      • Painting affects timer positively/will stop time
      • Copying colors from real world to current pallet


  • Optionals phase:
    1. Player has to pick a different color from their surroundings every 15sec
    2. Drawings get saved as assets in some folder/Do session management
    3. Drawings get loaded so that player can see previous ones
    4. Pressing the start button spawns a quick filter dimming phase where the player can see the ghost and its outliers
    5. When timer goes down the filter starts to get more concrete/certain
    6. When timer runs out game is over, player will fully see the ghost
